Summary

This year’s book collection have mostly been about learning to cook and history. My top 10 favorite books are the following:

Bubble Tea - Assad Khan

For a bubble tead addict, this book helped me save money. It is a recipe book containing 50 differents bubble tea varieties to try to impress guests.

Backen - Ratgeber Gesundheit

To help impress a certain someone, i learned to bake. This book shows and explains in great detail how to bake cakes, biscuits, and diverse pasteries from ingedrients readily available at the neighboring stores.

Pet Sematary - Stephen King

A horror book about the meaning of live, of family, of the passing away and of change. It is a slow read of a book but the underlying idea it conveys are worth the boredom.

And Then There were None - Agatha Christie

Eight people arrive on a small, isolated island, each having received an unexpected invitation. On the next morning one of the guess is found dead. With time, one guest after the other hits the dust. It is not a “Who didi it” type of story, but “who keeps doing it”.

How to Win Friends and influence People - Dale Carnegie

A must read for the twenty-first century, teaches six technics to be liked by people; twelve ways to win people to own’s way of thinking; nine ways to change people without arousing resentment. This book helps improve communication and likeliness.

Die Eweer, das Land und Leute in Togo - J. Spieß

This book describes the Ewe folk, my people, during the 19 century. It starts with the geographical and botany of the people and ends by describing the religion, the culture and society. For me, this book has been an essential source to understand my origins and its tradition before the impact of Western influences.

Animal Farm - George Owen

“All animals are equal. Some animals are more equal than others”. What else is there to say about this masterpiece? It is a political allegory about a group of animals who rebel against their human farmer to create a societe where animals can be equal and free. It is a portray of the russian (or Bolshevik) revolution of 1917, but model many corrupt regims like thatof the Congo under Mobutu.

Quantum Theory for Mathematicians - Brian C. Hall

There are few books that can translate Quantum theory into a language that mathematicians can understand.And this book is one of them. Quantum mechanics, with its controversial probabilistic nature and curious bleneding of waves and particles, is a very strange theory. Starting from the classical Newton mechanics, it dwells through the theory of self-adjoint operators, harmonic oscillations, the uncertainly principle, the radial potentials and the hydrogen atom, Lie Groups and Algebra and geometric quantization on euclidean and on Manifolds.

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald

This book retells the story of Jay Gatsby, a young, mysterious millionaire with shady business connections, obsessed with reuniting with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan. With a very tragic ending, this book is a must-read for every young man.

The Kamasutra - Vatsyayana Mallanaga

One would expect The Kamasutra to be a book concerning sexual position and related to secrets about love. It is however neiter exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual on sex positions, but rather a guide on the art of living well, the nature of love, finding partners, maintaining a sex life and other aspects pretraining to pleasure-oriented faculties. It is moreover a very reliogious text, as it acknowledges the Hindu concept of purusharthas, and lists desire, sexuality, and emotional fulfillment as one of the proper goals of life. Finally, it also provides a narrative through the history of ancient India with a special writing style.
